Greenville, South Carolina (WSPA) – Plans are underway to make Woodruff Road easier for drivers to navigate.
The proposal was unanimously voted at a meeting of the Greenville County Council on Wednesday night. The Project approved Extend the existing parallel parkway to the bypass.
Clive and Roxy Lunn have lived in Greenville for 20 years and have a first-hand experience of Woodruff Road traffic.
“When we arrived here, there was almost nothing on Woodruff Road, and there were two lanes,” Clive Lunn said.
The county council has now resolved to proceed with plans to reduce some of its traffic.
“It will be a real game changer for Woodruff Road and the crowds beyond,” said County Councilman Limballard.
The Woodruff Road Bypass extends from the current Parallel Parkway to Smith Hines Road, where it reconnects to Woodruff Road.
“This will remove much of that congestion at the bottom of Woodruff Road,” Ballard said.
According to Ballard, this project has been around for a long time. It costs $ 121 million, partly paid by state infrastructure funds and partly by the county.
“$ 30 million will be spent on either a specific undefined road project or a county portion of Woodruff Road,” Ballard said.
He says this should make a big difference for people who visit the area frequently.
“As the Green Building continues to grow, traffic will continue to grow and we may not yet know how much bypass will reduce traffic flow, but I think it will be important,” Ballard said.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2024.
