Aurora, Colorado — Last week, Stanley Marketplace employees arrested a 27-year-old man accused of stealing a bicycle. After all, he was sought by Aurora police for months for being involved in the theft of over 100 bicycles.

Reime Rossello, owner of the Mexican restaurant Comida, says she chased a man identified by police as Alec Jackson after catching her employee stealing a bicycle.

“It was a top priority for everyone, as two employees had their bikes stolen, as it was four days ago,” she said on Friday.

When Rossello chased Jackson, he struggled to ride the bike and began to leave important evidence.

“He turned a little and twisted a little, dropped the backpack, dropped the bolt cutter. I picked up both and said,” What are you going to do now? I have your backpack. “Masu,” she recalled.

At that time, some other people were able to grab Jackson and throw it to the ground. They kept him there until the guards and police arrived.

“It needs a village. It wasn’t just one person who made it happen, it was all of us,” Rossello said.

She later learned that he didn’t want to steal just one bike. Aurora police believe he is responsible for stealing more than 100 bicycles in the Aurora / Denver area.

“He’s usually pretty fast. He usually takes a bolt cutter, unlocks, and he’s on a bike, and he’s gone right away,” said Agent Matthew Longshore.

Jackson had been known to the police for months, says Longshore, but they couldn’t identify him. Coincidentally, APD planned to publish a surveillance photo of Jackson hours before his arrest. Longshore is grateful that Jackson was captured, regardless of how it happened.

“I am very grateful to these community members who saw this happening and were able to chase this guy and safely detain him until we could get there soon. “I am,” said Longshore. “We want to make sure this person is responsible for his actions.”

The situation may change as Jackson faces theft charges, but the investigation is still open and the detectives are working on ties to other cases. He had an excellent warrant from Jefferson County for trespassing. As of Friday afternoon, he remained in Adams County Jail.
