Very luxurious Camry, 1990 Lexus ES 250

Today’s rare ride the only Other cars that accompany Lexus LS 400 At the dealership in 1990 and 1991. The best Camry offered in the US was the badge conversion from the Camry sold in the Japanese market.

But consumers spotted the charade, so the minimal effort ES was just sitting there while the hard-working LS 400 jumped off the showroom floor.

Like the current ES, the first (V20-based) ES 250 was front-wheel drive, powered by a V6 engine, and designed for a two-lane comfort cruise. As Toyota reached the launch date of its flagship LS, they found it unattractive to sell a single vehicle under the long-awaited all-new brand.

The answer came from the Japanese market V20 Camry, which was launched in Japan in the late 1986 model in 1987. The V20 was a high quality Camry that was manufactured domestically in Kentucky and established a nameplate in the US market. The Camry will then take off with the now legendary 1992 XV10 redesign.

The V20 was sold in North America in a sedan and wagon variation, but one body style, the frameless window pillar hardtop, was withheld. The gorgeous Camry edit, known as Vista or Camry Prominent (since 1989), wore a completely different body panel than the sedan. saw It’s almost the same. Vista is an inch lower for a more sophisticated look. This means significantly less headroom than the cheap sedans on which Vista was based. Vista wasn’t for the export market, it was a formal replacement for the previous generation 5-door body style.

“But this will have to be done,” said Lexus management. As a result, Vista became ES 250 and was coded as VZV21. The interior and exterior were soon given a Lexus again. Outside, the ES has grown larger grilles and tail lamps, additional chrome trim, and wheels adjacent to the LS. All 1st generation ES250s featured a properly premium two-tone paint scheme. The Vista interior was transformed with real wood appliqués, shirred leather (usually), and plenty of beige material. Equipped with ABS, airbag, power sunroof, and CD player as standard equipment. All ES250s used the same Camry 2.5-liter V6, but consumers could choose the transmission (wow!) And choose between 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.

Lexus sold the ES as a “luxury sedan for sports sedans,” but it was very soft because it had a 159 horsepower engine and couldn’t hold up very well. Everything else.. Customers were less intrigued by the $ 22,000 (adjusted $ 47,803) price tag in 1990 and realized what it was, a temporary gap before the actual ES was developed. Therefore, the ES remained the first generation only between 1990 and 1991, and was subsequently replaced by the much more successful XV10-based ES300. Lexus has sold less than 40,000 Es250s in the last two years.

And that makes today’s rare rides a particularly unusual discovery. Beyond the low mileage of 38,000 miles, the inside of the blue cloth (!) Is combined with the outside of white and beige. Your author has never seen the ES 250 on cloth and has never seen the blue interior and the white exterior. ES is yours $ 6,000..
