    (NEXSTAR) – U.S. Navy Declared five missing sailors dead on Saturday Incident off San Diego on Tuesday.

    As of September 4, announced by the Navy’s Pacific Fleet on Saturday, rescue operations have officially transitioned to recovery.

    The MH-60S Seahawk helicopter was said to be operating from the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln during normal flight operations when it crashed into the sea about 60 miles from the coast on Tuesday afternoon.     Five additional USS Abraham Lincoln sailors were allegedly injured during the incident, prompting speculation as to whether some of the helicopters collided with the aircraft carrier. Two of the injured sailors were taken to the shore for treatment.

    The Navy says investigations into the cause of the crash are still underway.

There were also a total of 34 search and rescue flights, with a total flight time of 170 hours, and “constant” searches from surface ships.

    In honor of the Pacific Fleet, the name of the deceased is withheld until 24 hours after the sailor’s close relatives are identified.
