US missionaries say 2 of 17 abductees freed in Haiti – Nashville-Davidson, Tennessee

Haiti, Port-au-Prince (AP) —Two of the 17 kidnapped members of the missionary group have been released in Haiti, are safe, and are “energically cared for,” an Ohio-based church organization. Announced on Sunday.
The Christian Aid Ministry has issued a statement that it cannot give the names of those released, why they were released, or any other information.

“We are pleased with this release, but our hearts are still in the 15 people who are still in captivity,” the group said.
The missionaries were kidnapped by 400 Mawozo gangs on October 16th. A group of 16 US citizens and 1 Canadian has 5 children. Their Haitian driver was also kidnapped.

The leader of the 400 Mawozo gang threatened to kill the hostages unless the gang’s demands were met. Authorities said the gang was demanding $ 1 million per person, but it wasn’t immediately clear that the group’s children were included.

The US government has urged US citizens to leave Haiti because of the country’s serious anxiety and a serious shortage of fuel. Canada announced on Friday that it would withdraw all but important personnel from the embassy.
