    US futures show mixed open as investors value Omicron variants

    US stock index futures were modest to start on Monday as the market reopened after Christmas holidays and investors evaluated the spread of the omicron Covid-19 variant.

    The Dow Jones futures showed an open about 10 points lower on Monday, while the S & P and Nasdaq futures both showed a slightly higher open.

    The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 196.67 points (0.55%) to 35,950.56 as the market closed on Thursday and Friday. The S & P 500 rose 0.62% to a record high of 4,725.79. The average of 500 shares is less than 0.4% from the daytime highs. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.85% to 15,653.37.
