    Portland defeats the Rainbow Wahine basketball team 91-77 in the opening game of Bank of Hawaii Classic tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center’s Simply Fi Arena, overcoming Hawaii’s senior Amy Atwell’s best career performance. bottom.

    Atwell scored the highest 30 points in his career with a 12-21 shot at Rainbow Wahine (0-3), including four 3-pointers. Portland (3-1) countered with a balanced attack led by Alex Fowler’s 20 points, as all five pilot starters scored in double digits.

    However, Portland forced a 10 UH turnover in the first quarter, taking 28-18 when Emme Shearer ejected three pointers early in the second quarter.

    UH responded with an 8-0 run capped by Davis’ pull-up jumper in the lane. Wahine stretched the run to a surge of 18-6, taking the lead of 36-34. Portland regained a 40-38 lead in the second half when the 6-foot-6 Cochrane found Fowler in two layups. UH guard Kelsey Imai fired a high-arc three-pointer with 23 seconds remaining, but Rosepflug responded to Portland shortly before the buzzer, giving the pilot a half-time 43-41 lead.

    Both teams led more than three players in the third quarter, drawing 60-60.

    Portland started in the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run, starting with Maddy Murheim’s three pointers. The pilot opened a double-digit lead when Mühlheim drained another player from the left. The theft led to Andrews’ layup, winning a 78-66 lead and the pilot blocking Wahine on the rest of the road.
