Universal Music spin-off to test investors’ desire for music

Date:

Vivendi SE’s Universal Music Group spin-off, scheduled for Tuesday, will force French conglomerates to abandon their most profitable businesses and test the market’s willingness to play music as an asset class.

The world’s largest music companies, after stars such as Taylor Swift, Drake and The Beatles, will make their debut on the Euronext Stock Exchange in Amsterdam and distribute shares to Vivendi investors. The move came after the recent surge in the value of technology for music catalogs, music streaming companies and creators, as interest in the revived music business as an investment increased.
