U.S. Special Envoy to Haiti Resigns Washington’s “Inhumane” Immigrant Deportation

    Global migration update

A US special envoy to Haiti resigned in protest of what he said was the Biden administration’s “inhuman and unproductive decision” to deport thousands of Haiti immigrants.

Former U.S. Ambassador Daniel Harrington, who took on his latest State Department post, will resign in July as the White House is working on a surge of immigrants from Haiti in the Texas border town of Del Rio. ..

Department of Homeland Security Said After an estimated 14,000 people gather under the town bridge this weekend, the deportation flights to Haiti will “accelerate the pace and increase capacity.”

In his September 22 resignation, first issued by US broadcaster PBS on Thursday, Foot said Washington’s policy on Haiti was “terribly flawed” and his own recommendation was “ignored and rejected.” Added.

Foote is a member of the Senior Foreign Affairs Department previously dispatched to Afghanistan, Iraq and other Latin American countries.

State Department spokesman Ned Price misunderstood the situation of his resignation and accused him of “not having enough opportunity to raise concerns about migration during his tenure.”

“It’s just a mistake to say that he ignored his proposal,” Price said in a statement, adding that “not all ideas are good ideas.”

US President Joe Biden has been accused by conservatives of overseeing the immigration crisis at the US-Mexico border. But the US president has also been attacked by many Democrats who call deportation policies “cruel and cruel.”

Haiti suffered Catastrophic earthquake After the assassination of President Jovenel Moise last month, he is now in political turmoil. The country’s economy is flat, but inflation is projected to exceed 20 percent this year.

The Department of Homeland Security warned that illegal immigrants “should not be attempted because they pose a serious threat to the health and well-being of border areas and to the lives of the immigrants themselves,” adding that the US border was closed.

Foot’s resignation follows criticism from more than 50 Democrats who urged the Department of Homeland Security to suspend deportation flights on Friday.

Ayanna Pressley, one of the people who signed the letter, said: .. “

Foot also criticized the United States’ broader approach to Haiti, saying that the United States is trying to influence the future of political leadership, which he described as a “collapsed nation.”

“The arrogance that makes us believe we should choose the winner is once again impressive,” he writes.
