Over the last two decades, movie greats such as The Lord of the Rings, Moonlight, and Parasites have been born. The last 20 years have also given us some real bombs.
To revisit some of those unexploded ordnance, we turn to Metacritic. This is an entertainment review site that integrates the scores of film critics on the Internet, weights each score, and calculates a weighted average. Basically, Metacritic provides one aggregate score from 0 to 100 instead of reading a lot of movie reviews.
Ready to travel the memorable path?Behold, according to the worst movie released every year for the last 20 years Metacritic..
(A brief note about our methodology: I’ve omitted movies that haven’t been rated NC-17. I don’t want to write a summary of the plots for those movies on my work computer, and Metacritic has less than seven. I’m omitting the movie It’s a critic’s review, so I’ve also removed them from the list.)
2020: “Love, weddings and other disasters”
It’s one of the rom-coms with an ensemble cast (including Diane Keaton, who plays a blind woman) and multiple stories where everything converges in some way. Maybe this movie wasn’t just the right mood in the year COVID-19 ruined many weddings?
Metascore: 11 (based on 7 critic reviews)
2019: “Haunting of Sharon Tate”
Hilary Duff plays Sharon Tate in this dramatic retelling of her murder by Charles Manson’s cult.Los Angeles Times review Call it “Sneaky B Thriller”, The Wrap Called It’s “surprisingly tasteless”. Rap also predicted that it would be one of the worst movies of the year. It turns out they were right!
Metascore: 8 (based on 10 critic reviews)
2018: “Death of the country”
The film was created by conservative expert Dinesh Dousa, and at the beginning of the trailer, Donald Trump is likened to Abraham Lincoln (and Democrats are Nazis), so you’ll probably get the point. But beyond the clear political agenda, critics say the film was totally bad. In the first place, it’s as poorly constructed and artistically bankrupt as it actually qualifies as a film, “Peter Sobtinsky wrote in him. review..
Metascore: 1 (based on 8 critic reviews)
2017: “The Emoji Movie”
This is an animated movie about emoji inside a mobile phone. It’s an original idea, but critics say the writer couldn’t change the concept into a really interesting moment. Apparently, the all-star cast of voice actors, including Maya Rudolph, Jennifer Coolidge, Patrick Stewart, Anna Faris, and at least five other very famous people, couldn’t even carry the film.
Metascore: 12 (based on 26 critic reviews)
2016: “Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party”
Another work by Dinesh Dousa, who flopped as a critic. “In the past, I have given D’Souza the benefit of doubt and have gone astray to achieve a special purpose.” I have written Arizona Republic critic Bill Goody Koontz. “But this is crazy.”
Metascore: 2 (based on 17 critic reviews)
2015: “Some kind of beautiful”
Pierce Brosnan, Salma Hayek and Jessica Alba play a love triangle in this romantic comedy. But critics seem to think that the talent of those actors is wasted in this movie, which is full of clichés and misogyny.
Metascore: 11 (based on 9 critic reviews)
2014: “Septic Man”
“Septic Man” is a horror movie in which a man is trapped in a septic tank. This is a terrifying premise for fairness. But critics found the movie not scary or interesting, just boring.
Metascore: 8 (based on 7 critic reviews)
2013: “Scary Movie 5”
The fifth installment in the Scary Movie series is aimed at the horror movie Paranormal Activity, but critics say the parody has unmarked it. It puts it gently. NS Washington post Critics called it “a lazy, boring, vulgar and tragicly unpleasant attempt at a parody of a horror film that might kill brain cells and show an imminent apocalypse.”
Metascore: 11 (based on 16 critic reviews)
2012: “A little heaven”
Kate Hudson plays a funny and beautiful single woman who fell in love with her doctor. Then she gets cancer. You know where this is going, right? The consensus is like a movie, but it was too stereotyped and not interesting. But Whoopi Goldberg plays God, so at least it’s going for it.
Metascore: 14 (based on 20 critic reviews)
2011: “Bucky Larson: Born to Bea Star”
Bucky Larson is a chewy grocery worker and his life “goes nowhere” until his parents are found to be porn stars (as the trailer says). He travels to California to follow in their footsteps. The premise sounds interesting enough, but the joke doesn’t seem to have landed. “This is an ugly looking movie, a slightly offensive movie. The truth is told,” wrote Roger Moore of Orlando Sentinel.
Metascore: 9 (based on 13 critic reviews)
2010: “Almost Twilight”
The critics weren’t fans of this parody of the popular “Twilight” Saga, but a “Scary Movie” style spoofing. They said it was full of bad jokes and outdated humor.
Metascore: 18 (based on 17 critic reviews)
2009: “Miss March”
The premise alone is chaotic. A teenager falls into a coma on the night of the prom, wakes up four years later, and realizes that his virgin prom date is now a “playboy” model. He wants to chase her, hijinks follows. As expected, it’s filthy, but critics write it’s not very interesting. NS Boston Globe Review Some of the movies are pretty interesting, but “‘Please! Playmate’ is a comedy that looks like it was made by someone who has never actually had sex.”
Metascore: 7 (based on 15 critic reviews)
2008: “Hot water bottle and notty”
It’s hard to even explain this movie in an unpleasant way. Basically, the protagonist is in love with Paris Hilton, but her “Notty” roommates with bent teeth and hair are interfering with their relationship. Critics’ reviews were universally terrible.
Metascore: 7 (based on 18 critic reviews)
2007: “Papa Day Camp”
The two fathers decided to take over the summer camp to spend more time with their children. male? In charge of childcare? They probably couldn’t pull it off! This is a sequel to “Papa Day Care” that no one asked for.
Metascore: 13 (based on 19 critic reviews)
2006: “Dating Movie”
People from “scary movies” will reappear on this list. This time, we will parody the entire genre of romantic comedy. Some critics admit that it made them laugh once, but if it’s the best comedy, it’s not great.
Metascore: 11 (based on 18 critic reviews)
2005: “Alone in the Dark”
“Alone in the Dark” is (roughly) based on a video game of the same name, and critics suggest that fans of the game play it instead of watching a movie.
Metascore: 9 (based on 25 critic reviews)
2004: “Super Baby: Baby Genius 2”
Jon Voight plays the evil German in a plan to control the minds of everyone on Earth … but not if these superhero toddlers have anything to do with it! Tiny? Spooky? both? Critics say the plot is too confusing for children and too boring for adults.
Metascore: 9 (based on 19 critic reviews)
2003: “Justin to Kelly”
Two “American Idol” favorites, Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, are trying to move from singing to acting, but they don’t really work. Reviews make the movie really, really boring.
Metascore: 14 (based on 16 critic reviews)
The film revolves around a professional clown threatened by a rapist after being raped. But is it also a comedy? I can’t imagine why Lionsgate, the indie distributor who released “Monsters Ball,” cares about this trash, “reads the San Francisco Chronicle. review..
Metascore: 5 (based on 10 critic reviews)
Mariah Carey plays a troubled childhood breakout pop star in this infamous and bad movie. What’s so bad? Critics described it as unpleasant, boring, ridiculous, and unintentionally cheerful. Is it okay because the movie is so bad? No, that’s not the case.
Metascore: 14 (based on 23 critic reviews)
