Tommy DeBarge –Members of R & B / Funk Band Switch-And part of the famous DeBarge family in the music industry has died.
A member of the family says Tommy has been suffering from liver and kidney problems for years, but has recently worsened. He was hospitalized a few weeks ago and is said to have died in the hospital on Thursday.
DeBarge became famous for Switch in the mid-to-late 70’s. The group recorded hits such as “There’ll Never Be”, “I Call Your Name” and “Love Over and Over Again”.
Tommy and his brother, BobbyWas a founding member of the group and had a great influence on future bands in this genre, including a group of DeBarge … brothers.
Bobby and Tommy left Switch to teach their brother and sister at DeBarge, but Bobby died of AIDS-related complications in 1995.
Tommy was 64 years old.
