According to the latest Lyst Index, the short-form video app TikTok took over the fashion discourse in 2021, and style-specific discussions began, especially between Gen Z and Millennials. A 2021 search showed that Levi’s and Weekday were popular choices, with buggy jeans taking the top spot with 55% year-over-year growth.

As personal styles became more and more experienced and represented online, fashion brand digital products ranged from non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and virtual drops to collaborations with video games such as Roblox.

According to the latest Lyst Index, the short-form video app TikTok took over the fashion discourse in 2021, and style-specific discussions began, especially between Gen Z and Millennials. A 2021 search showed that Levi’s and Weekday were popular choices, with buggy jeans taking the top spot with 55% year-over-year growth.

Recently, Balenciaga worked with Fortnite to offer an exclusive in-game digital fashion item and physical product line. Within 24 hours of the release of the physical capsule collection, searches for “Balenciaga x Fortnite” surged 72%, while demand for Balenciaga increased 49%. When New York indie fashion label Collina Strada hosted its first Metaverse runway show in May, brand searches increased by 28%.

Demand for vegan leather products has increased by 178%, and the number of searches for plant-dyed products has increased by 131% year-on-year, leading to an increase in environmentally friendly shopping.

From April to August, we searched for bright, bold and colorful pieces, especially hot pink, orange, yellow and green, which surged 191%. Lyst said on the website.

With the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine shots worldwide, the “Vaccine Top” quickly became a trend. Short hem was one of the most surged trends in 2021 as the number of searches for miniskirts and dresses increased by 221% year-on-year. Global search for high heels has consistently increased since May, with “disco heels” increasing 233% in the same month.

In August, demand for oversized suits increased by 109% compared to last year, while wide leg pants were in high demand from July, increasing by 87%.

Major athletic events such as the Olympics and the euro have aroused interest in sportswear. Prior to Euro 2020 in June, worldwide searches for “soccer” and “soccer” T-shirts increased by 33%. At the Tokyo Olympics, the official Olympic debut of skateboarding was in the limelight, and the search for the Nike SB range, especially the Duncro sneakers, surged 100% in just 48 hours.
