Prosecutors have filed 71 new charges against suspects who killed six and injured dozens in a parade tragedy in Walkisha, Wisconsin last November.
Darrell Brooks was previously charged with six counts of one intentional murder associated with a victim killed in a crash. He is currently facing a total of 77 charges, according to online court records reviewed by NPR.
The new fee submitted on Wednesday is Includes 61 counts of each time you recklessly endanger your safety with dangerous weapons, 6 counts of hit-and-run that causes death, 2 felony charges of bail jumps, and 2 counts of domestic violence.
According to officials, more than 50 people were killed in the Wakesha Christmas Parade, where children and the elderly were seriously injured.
Walkisha Police Chief Daniel Thompson Said before Brooks “intentionally” pushed his car into the parade. Authorities said there was no clear motive for why Brooks was allegedly doing so.
Brooks, 39, has not yet pleaed the six previous murder charges.
Prior to the parade clash, Brooks was accused of using his car to hurt a woman in another incident. According to court records, Brooks confronted a woman outside the motel, knocked her cell phone out of her hand and drove a car.Authorities said Brooks then came back, hit her in the face, and turned her over in his car.
