We say that every year: At the roadshow we are incredibly lucky to drive all the latest and greatest cars. You may have short stints in exotic locations, or you may have weeks of testing on the roads you are accustomed to at home. All the experience is worth it, but looking back over the last 12 months, some stand out more than others.
From incredibly practical compacts to hilarious supercars, concepts, and classics, these are our favorites since 2021.

Choosing my favorite car this year was very easy.It’s notor or , But a 64-year-old Mercedes-Benz with 215 horsepower. The 1957 300SL is mechanically perfect. It features the best manual transmission I’ve ever used, impeccable road manners, an incredible in-line 6-cylinder engine, and an incredible steering feel with giant ivory wheels.In addition, it looks like That.. Flying this roadster around Pebble Beach on a foggy morning was amazing.
Far from the sexiest or most entertaining new car I’ve driven this year, the 2022 Ford Maverick may be the best-or at least the most worthwhile. Specifically, we are talking about a cheap XL and XLT hybrid model. I love light trucks and have been working for the industry for 10 years to develop honest, basic and affordable pickups. With a standard hybrid powertrain net of up to 42mpg, five seats, and a solid $ 21,490 suggested retail price (already delivered), Ford’s Maverick isn’t just smarter than it should be. It’s also more balanced.
Seriously, is there a complete “best car” list so far without some version of Porsche 911? Simply put, this iconic nameplate is the gold standard for performance cars, offering superior driver engagement, unprecedented speed, a wealth of technology, and even a luxurious (not terribly spacious) interior. To do.
Earlier this year, I reviewed the new 2022 Porsche 911 GTS, and whipping on the winding roads of northeastern Georgia was absolutely sublime. Like other GTS models, this sports car walks on thin lines and offers significantly more powerful performance than less trim, without the exaggeration and cost of turbo variations. A flat-six engine mounted at the rear brings 473 horsepower, 420 pound-foot torque, and a big smile every time you turn the throttle. With the available 7-speed manual transmission, you won’t get bored. The 911 GTS is an absolute lover and a car I am grateful for the opportunity to experience.
I’m an affordable rear-wheel drive coupe sucker, but sadly the market isn’t full of modern ones. That is why the 2nd generation Toyota GR86 is such a treat. From a styling point of view, it’s significantly different from the previous model, with a clearer and slightly grown sheet metal, but the interior is clean and straightforward.
But in reality, performance changes are most welcome. The larger 2.4-liter Boxer 4 engine brings 228 horsepower and 184 lb-foot torque to the party, but you can still use a smooth-shifting 6-speed manual. Yay! There is also automatic, but not. please do not. The 86 also boasts sharper handling than before due to its stiff body construction and reworked suspension. Oh, and it can’t be forgotten that Toyota is finally outfitting the 86 with fine rubber from the factory and a premium trim level that comes standard with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. Thank you Toyota (and Subaru) for the fresh 86.
I was lucky to be able to drive some prototypes and concepts over the years, but you are very rarely invited, you know, true Drive things Porsche not only grabbed the handle of Mission R a few weeks after its debut, but also gave me a private track to actually do it. This is a vision for the all-electric future of Porsche’s racing program, with 1,000 horsepower directed to all four wheels. Driving is not only exciting and wild, but it also shows that the future of motorsport will be very good.

All my young Lamborghini seem to be wild, hingeless, sophisticated or accurate, or insane and not powerful, with wings and vents everywhere. It was a zero heck. Those cars captured my imagination, and the Lamborghini got better objectively and better to drive in the meantime, but I always felt like something was lost along the way: Drama. Furakan STO brings me much of it. It certainly looks insane with its dorsal fin and huge wings. It’s not particularly practical or rational for everyday use like other Huracans, but it’s a really great driver car. It’s sharp, violent and exciting-the best car I’ve driven in 2021. It’s not a car I’ll never forget.

The Jeep Wrangler Bicon 392 is the V8 dirt monster we’ve always wanted.

Does the world need a Jeep Wrangler that can scoot from 0 mph to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, ring the tires and make a unique V8 roar? no. But hot shit it’s fun. With a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with the best 470 horsepower and 470 pound-foot torque, the Wrangler 392 is the most ridiculous fun I’ve enjoyed all year round. It surrounded the dunes, conquered the rocks, and let me do it top-down with the doors open. Sure, the fuel economy is terrible, and that’s not what I want to commute every day, but as an off-road rig, this V8 jeep is hard to beat.
The Rivian R1T crashes into the road with incredible acceleration and tackles the trail with eerily quiet confidence. Boasting enough power and range for daily driving (up to 314 miles), there is room for a little wiggle for light traction, a fully electric pickup is also like a gear tunnel storage that can be converted into a drawer. Camping kitchen packed with unique features. The R1T, unlike any truck I’ve ever driven, is an excellent pioneer for the next wave of electric pickups.

I didn’t want to stop driving this car. With a horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine, a perfect 6-speed stick, an excited quiver that runs up the spine when the Tach needle reaches 9,000 rpm, driving the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring is an instant and unforgettable experience. Only the standard GT3 has approached the thrill of this year’s GT3 touring. Everything else? It’s far behind.
Another GT3 tester will come in January. So if you see repeats in the 2022 list, you know why.
For a long time, our experience with luxury luxury electric vehicles has been limited to one car from a single manufacturer. But now we have finally reached a turning point where legacy automakers bring their know-how to the table to deliver a new generation of EVs. So it’s no wonder Daimler (the people who invented the car) announced one of the best cars in 2021.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS was easily the best car I’ve ever driven all year long. Electric vehicles have proven to be a luxury rolling block in every respect, like Mercedes-Benz, powered by gas. It drives like a dream and provides enough punch when needed,, that too. And then there is the hyperscreen. This is a dashboard wonder that incorporates three separate displays to create one component with lots of great elements. EQS has set the highest standards for all future luxury EVs, whether from startups or long-time OEMs.
