NSThe ropical Storm Nicholas is the 14th named storm of the 2021 hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean, tracking just east of the Far South after forming in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico last Sunday. Texas, Finally land on Tuesday. Nicholas caused heavy rains, strong winds, storm surges and floods.
In the western Pacific, the super typhoon (equivalent to a Category 5 Atlantic hurricane) Chantu intensified rapidly last week, with peak wind speeds exceeding 160mph. Chanthu landed in the northern Philippines on Saturday and was one of the strongest storms to date this year.
The storm weakened as it approached the south and east coasts of Taiwan on Sunday, and although it spared no effort, it still caused considerable rainfall, strong winds, dangerous swells, coastal floods and life-threatening situations. Chantu then chased towards South Korea along the coast just east of China, and then headed east towards Japan.
In Europe, a tornado struck last Friday on Pantelleria, a small Italian island between Sicily and Tunisia in the Mediterranean, killing two people. According to the Italian Civil Protection Agency, a tornado turned the car over and stripped the roof, injuring several others.
