    Swiss tighten Covid border controls

Switzerland announced on Friday that all travelers entering the country who have not been vaccinated with Covid-19 or have not recovered from their illness will need evidence of a negative test.

According to Bern, the action taken on Monday was a bid to prevent a surge in Delta subspecies infections after the summer vacation, followed by a surge when people began to return from their fall vacations.

“People who have not been vaccinated or have not recovered must present a negative test result upon entry,” the government said in a statement, and another test in Switzerland four to seven days later. He added that it must be done for a fee.

All travelers must also fill out a locator form.

Every day more than 2 million people and 1 million vehicles cross the Swiss border.

The test and entry form requirements do not apply to transit travelers, professional goods or transport drivers, cross-border commuters, or people entering from cross-border areas.

Immunization rates in wealthy Alps countries lag behind those in neighboring countries, with only 53.3 percent of the population fully immunized.

Approximately 31% of beds in the intensive care unit are filled with Covid-19 patients.

Switzerland is currently asking people to present evidence of vaccination, recovery, or negative testing to attend bars, restaurants, cinemas, exhibitions, and indoor sporting events.

Beginning Monday, foreign visitors vaccinated abroad in jabs approved by the European Medicines Agency will be able to obtain a Swiss Covid certificate to enter restaurants and venues.

Limits are unpopular in some parts of the Swiss population, and demonstrations (usually rare in Switzerland) are on the rise.

Approximately 3,000-4,000 people marched in the capital Bern on Thursday evening, in opposition to measures and restrictions.

Some attacked the federal palace, a fence surrounding government and parliamentary seats, and police responded with water cannons and rubber bullets, the Swiss news agency ATS reported.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin said at a press conference on Friday that “everything that is violent will be blamed without restrictions.”
