Nashville, Tennessee (WTVF) —Social media platforms are taking part in a fight to stop the rampant sale of illegal drugs on the site, like Snapchat, which is currently implementing a new safety policy.

The app has developed a new educational portal called Heads Up. This portal is displayed when a user searches for drug-related keywords.

Next, the health agency will distribute content for substance abuse.

Sales of illegal drugs are increasing in Tennessee. The TBI will meet with the Tennessee Department of Health and the Tennessee Department of Mental Health on Monday to discuss how dangerous the drug is.

According to the state, more than 3,000 Tennessees died from overdose last year. This is a 45% increase compared to 2019.

The company said in a statement that it was determined to remove illegal drug sales from the platform and plans to hold drug sellers accountable.
