Renton, WA — Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will step down for a few weeks after undergoing surgery to repair two injuries to his right middle finger on Friday.
Wilson posted a photo on Friday night After his surgery in Southern California. Wilson flew to Los Angeles to meet with hand expert Dr. Stephen Singh to determine the best course of action to repair the injury.
Wilson ruptured a tendon, often called the mallet finger, and had a “fracture dislocation” of the joint above the middle finger, Shin said in a statement released by the team. Injury rehabilitation will begin this weekend.
“Russell is back in the NFL this season and is completely confident that he will play at the same world-class level that fans have come to expect from one of the game’s best quarterbacks,” Shin said. It is stated in.
NFL network Wilson reported that he had inserted a screw to stabilize his finger.
Wilson was injured during a 26-17 defeat to the Rams on Thursday night when his finger hit Aaron Donald’s arm in the defensive tackle in a follow-through of a pass attempt. Wilson tried to play another series and throw another pass before giving way to Geno Smith in the fourth quarter.
Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Wilson didn’t have the power to control the ball needed to throw.
“No one should doubt his toughness. No one should doubt his determination and participate in the game,” Carroll said. “If he could throw football and grab it, he would have been in, he would have done it.”
Since being drafted by the Seahawks in 2012, Wilson has begun a playoff of all 149 games and 16 games of the regular season and hasn’t missed a match in his career. Meanwhile, he missed only a handful of matches.
Wilson had the longest active streak of start in the quarterback.
To date, Wilson was closest to missing the match in 2016, suffering an ankle injury in the opening round of the season and a knee sprained MCL in the third week. In his first match after a knee injury, he threw 309 yards. Three touchdowns to beat the New York Jet.
According to Carroll, Wilson spent most of the night figuring out a plan to inspect his fingers and the next steps in the process.
“This is his best ras in terms of competitiveness,” Carroll said. “I mean I’m doing everything I can to be ready to use whatever he has available.”
Without Wilson, the Seahawks season could be in Smith’s hands. He looked great against Rams in the fourth quarter as Seattle tried to recover from below two scores. Smith led Seattle with two scoring drives, but threw a passcut with about two minutes remaining after Tyler Lockett stumbled.
Smith finally started his match against the New York Giants on the day of the end of the Eli Manning series in 2017. He started one game at Jets in 2016, but the last time he saw any extended action was in 2014, his second season in the league.
Seattle will be within a manageable schedule in Pittsburgh next weekend, followed by home games and buy-weeks between New Orleans and Jacksonville.
“Geno was practicing with us the other day and was waiting for his opportunity,” Carroll said. “The patience that showed him to be with us, and his relationship with Russ and the coach, is perfect.”
