    Robeson County, NC (WBTW) —A US law firm said a pharmacy operator in Robeson County pleaded guilty on Thursday for a plot to commit a Medicare fraud.

    According to the release, Pembroke’s Melisha Oxendin West, who was employed at the Townsend Pharmacy in Red Springs between 2006 and 2017, was charged with fraudulent claims against Medicare, Medicaid, and private health insurance companies. He was accused of colluding with the owner and others.

    According to the release, West fraudulently reapproved an existing prescription from an authorized provider and billed the benefit program as if the drug had been dispensed.

    According to the release, West will be imprisoned for up to 10 years and fined twice as much as “gross profit or loss from crime.” She will be sentenced 90 days later.
