Pope encourages compassion to wrap up a Slovak pilgrimage – Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky

    Lexington-Fayette, Kentucky 2021-09-15 05:52:53 –

Pope Francis urged the Slovaks to look for the poorest of them at the end of their four-day pilgrimage to Central European countries.

Francis’ convoy route to Sustain’s National Shrine was lined with cheering maskless crowds.

They were rewarded with a slow-moving Popemobile excursion and Francis waving with a smile. According to the organizers, 60,000 people attended the mass. This was the largest crowd at any event during the Pope’s four-day pilgrimage to Slovakia.

They showed evidence of COVID-19 vaccination and received a barcode admitting admission.

Thousands of unvaccinated pilgrims were allowed to test negative or to prove that the virus had healed.

Mass was Francis’ only major event on Wednesday before returning to Rome after a four-day pilgrimage to Hungary and Slovakia.
