A pedestrian was struck and killed by a box truck Wednesday morning, Sept. 15, in Riverside, police said.

Prior to the crash, the pedestrian was seen impeding traffic in the area of Arlington Avenue and El Padro Street by trying to open the passenger doors of passing cars, the Riverside Police Department said. The pedestrian then walked into the street from the center median of Arlington Avenue when he was struck by a box truck traveling west, police said.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, authorities said.

The pedestrian’s identity was being withheld pending the coroner’s examination, police said.
