NBA and NBPA discuss adding tournaments during next season | NBA

The NBA and the Players Union are discussing making tournaments during the season part of the annual league calendar. This could shorten the league season by four games. ESPN report Sunday.

For leagues and nationals basketball The Players Association has reached an agreement and reports show that tournaments may be added to the league calendar as early as the 2022-23 season.

Proposals being discussed on both sides include all 30 teams competing in the pool play part of the tournament as part of the regular season. According to ESPN, the eight top-record teams will play in knockout tournaments that end before the holidays, with 78 games scheduled for the regular season instead of 82 games.

Financial incentives are included for players who may include up to $ 1 million per player on the winning team. However, according to the report, the league needs to balance what it can earn from television and sponsorship revenue with what the team can lose due to game cuts.

Commissioner Adam Silver has been enthusiastic about this idea and has watched how European football fans are embracing tournaments during the season.

The NBPA is expected to discuss this idea in detail at the February Winter Meeting of the All-Star Weekend in Cleveland.
