Fresno County, California (KFSN) — A larger monkeypox vaccine clinic is currently under construction in Fresno County.
The Fresno County Health Department will ask its oversight board to approve contracts with health care providers at its meeting Tuesday.
If given the go-ahead, the health department said providers would be ready to open monkeypox vaccine clinics by Wednesday.
Today, the Fresno Economic Opportunity Commission is one of five providers already offering monkeypox vaccine.
Julio Romero, assistant director of health services, said the EOC has administered more than 60 vaccines to date and is ready to expand to more locations.
The agency also conducts many educational outreaches to help the community understand what monkeypox symptoms look like and how to protect yourself.
Romero said that during this kind of outreach, he’s also run into some misconceptions about monkeypox and how it spreads, which he’s sure to address.
“It depends on who you have sexual relations with and the events and places you attend.” I am getting far away.”
There have been 13 confirmed cases of monkeypox virus in Fresno County so far, according to Department of Health data.
There are currently four clinics in Fresno County that offer the monkeypox vaccine.
You can find a list of those locations here.
