After a lot of speculation, spy shots, and sound rumors, Ford has stripped sheets from what’s called the most powerful street legal bronco ever to deploy from the Blue Oval factory. Featuring a FOX shock that allows yawning wheels to move, 37-inch all-terrain tires, and a sturdy Basque plate, this product is ready to jump through several dunes and tear through large open spaces. I am.

Below the hood is an engine that is not currently found in any Bronco factory. And it’s not the factory your author thought was between these flare raptor fenders.

Ford decided to take the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 out of the corporate cupboard for this application. This engine is currently restricted in use with some Lincoln products, and the Explorer ST is a 10-speed automatic. Ford is aiming for “at least” 400 horsepower. This means an increase of nearly 100 ponies over the existing top dog, which is 2.7L EcoBoost V6. The torque is currently obscured, but the engine is 415 lb-ft on the Explorer ST and the non-Raptor V6 Bronco is best with a 400 lb-ft twist. Blue oval marketers will certainly point out that horsepower is what you want to run in the fast desert anyway, and they have points. A header about the same length as the active valve exhaust should improve its sound compared to other applications.

So why did Ford tap the rarely used 3.0L EcoBoost instead of the popular 3.5L EcoBoost found on the F-150? The size is probably related to the frontal photos of these factories, as they show that they have much more girth than the engine pushed into the Bronco Raptor’s mission. Also-and this is a file for future reference-Ford offers this 3.0L as a plug-in hybrid for Lincoln Aviator. It delivers a powerful torque of nearly 500 horsepower and a torque of 630 lb-ft. Such a setup brings products to both the Wrangler 392 V8 (470/470) and the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid (375 hp / 470 lb-ft) at the same time.

But let’s get back to the Bronco Raptor. Below that are all kinds of off-road goods. The new shock tower compared provides more wheel travel room than the standard Bronco (13 inches front, 14 inches rear), and additional body reinforcement in the B-pillar and C-pillar areas provides approximately 50% torsional stiffness. It has been reported to improve. The rear axle has been replaced with a semi-float Dana 50 inspired by the Bronco DR race truck, while the independent front assembly uses the Dana 44 drive unit. There are lockers on both ends. Interestingly, the 44 is available in the aftermarket through Bronco’s Spicer Products, which describes it as the “ultimate upgrade for extreme offroads.”

The suspenders are developed on the FOX, which has lent talent to the development of the F-150 Raptor for many years. Here we introduce live valve technology with position-sensitive damping and uniquely tuned internal bypass at the front and rear. There is an integrated shock reservoir on the front, but a remote reservoir on the back. The minimum ground clearance is 13.1 inches (increased from Wildtrak’s 11.5), and the approach and departure angles are set to 47.2 degrees and 40.5 degrees, respectively. Water fording is suitable for 1 inch over 3 feet. For comparison, the 37 new F-150 Raptor has a 33.1 degree approach and a 24.9 degree departure angle, with a ground clearance the same as the Bronco’s Raptor. On the other hand, the Wrangler Bicon with the Extreme Reconnaissance Package has 47.4 and 40.4 degree angles back and forth, with a clearance of 12.9 inches. Let’s start the game.

If this bronco looks wide, that’s why. In fact, it’s 9.8 inches wider than the base Bronco 4-door and checks in at the huge 85.7 inches. It describes clearance marker lights and the inevitable Arizona pin striping. The curb weighs 5,733 pounds, about 800 pounds more than the fully kitted Wildtrak model. There are many orange addendums in the new Rhapsody, and there are several trim options, including an interesting Rhapsody Blue. In addition to the top-trimmed F-150 pickup, spy on a new gauge cluster ripped from a paddle shifter and a dandy 12-inch infotainment screen.

Customers can start ordering in March and the vehicle will arrive this summer. Apparently, if you already have an existing Bronco reservation, you’ll step into getting it. I’m looking forward to going later this year.
