Las Vegas (FOX5)-The judge has set a tentative trial date for a woman accused of strangling her son.
According to court records, Samantha Moreno Rodriguez, 35, will meet with the jury at the Clark County District Court on February 28, 2022. She will also hold two other hearings in February in preparation for an imminent trial.
Moreno Rodriguez has been accused of strangling seven-year-old Liam Hasted and his son and leaving them on a trail near Mountain Springs in May. Moreno Rodriguez told police that he was dissatisfied with the boy and strangled him for about 15 minutes, according to a grand jury indictment. She also watched a crime show on television and told police that she stripped the boy when he abandoned his body because he thought it would be more difficult to trace the boy back to her.
The prosecution confirmed that it was considering the death penalty in this case.
At a hearing on August 20, Moreno Rodriguez was acquitted of murder for Hasted’s death. At a hearing on September 3, she waived her right to a speedy trial and dated the trial.
Moreno-Rodriguez’s next court hearing was set on December 3.
