Jerry Douglas, Legendary Soap Opera Star, Dead at 88

The world of daytime drama has lost its legend.

Jerry Douglas, the most well-known veteran actor for his very long-standing role in The Young and the Restless, has died.

    He was 88 years old.

I don’t know much about the sad news at this point, but Douglas died of a “short illness” on Tuesday.

After graduating from Brandeis University, he earned a quarterback in the school’s soccer team and earned a degree in economics. Douglas joined the case of this CBS soap opera in 1982.

He was the head of the Abbott family at the time and was on board as the wealthy chairman of Jabot Cosmetics … and basically never left.

Douglas has remained in the beloved series for over 30 years.

Even after his character died in 2006, Douglas continued to emerge as the spirit of Abbott. Abbott seemed to lead other characters in difficult and difficult times.

    He last appeared in 2016.

Anthony Morina, executive producer of The Young and the Restless, said in a statement Wednesday:

“On behalf of The Young and the Restless Company as a whole, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Douglas family for the death of Jerry Douglas.”

    Molina continued:

“Jerry came to Y & R in 1982 with an impressive credit resume. At our show, an actor of his caliber was able to join the Y & R cast and introduce the iconic Abbott family to the audience. I was lucky.

“His contribution to Y & R’s legacy as the head of the Abbott family, John Abbott, is still felt.

    “He will be terribly missed.”
