Indonesia has found its first case of monkeypox in a 27-year-old man who returned from an overseas trip, the country’s health ministry said on Saturday.

The World Health Organization declared the virus outbreak an emergency last month—something it reserves for the most serious diseases.

Indonesia Ministry of Health Spokesman Mohammad Syahril said the patient was “well aware of the disease”.

“So when he got the symptoms, he immediately checked it (with) the doctor. The results came back (back) within a day,” Syahril told reporters, adding that the man is now isolated in the capital Jakarta.

Symptoms of monkeypox—common in parts of Central and West Africa—include sores, fever, muscle aches and chills. It was only fatal in rare cases.

The patient arrived in Indonesia on August 8 and developed symptoms of fever and rashes a week later.

The spokesman of the ministry refused to reveal the country where the man went to Indonesia.

Elsewhere in Southeast Asia, Singapore has confirmed more than a dozen cases and the Philippines and Thailand have also reported their first cases. America has written thousands of times.

Unlike previous outbreaks in Africa, the disease is spread more through close contact—although it is not a contagious disease.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says other methods are possible, including bed sharing, clothing, and long face-to-face contact.

On Wednesday, the World Health Organization called on people who have been infected with monkey pox to avoid infecting animals as a result of the first infection from humans to dogs.
