    I-15 backup as holiday travelers leave Nevada for California

    Las Vegas (AP) — Travelers returning from Nevada to California on the last day of Thanksgiving weekend can expect a long delay.

    The Nevada Southern Regional Transport Commission said in a tweet on Sunday morning that the car was backed up 20 miles on the I-15 southbound.

    Traffic on Sundays after Thanksgiving on the state border near Prim, 45 miles southwest of Las Vegas, is as traditional as a holiday.

    Officials say the delay is partly due to the interstate highway dropping from three lanes in Nevada to two lanes in California.

    Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman recently asked California’s transport authorities to expand the I-15 to support backups that occur before and after major holidays.

    };

    if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;}

    js.async = true;
    fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
