    Hunan Province of China Flags First International Freight Train to Laos

    Hunan Province of China recently flagged the first international freight train to Laos on the new Boten-Vientiane Railway line from Huaihua’s international land port, opening a new route to ASEAN countries. The railway started operation in December 2021. A train carrying 72 containers left China via Mohan Port in Yunnan Province.

    According to Chinese media reports, the train took about four days to reach Vientiane, the capital of Laos, reducing transportation time from Hunan to ASEAN countries by more than two-thirds compared to roads.

    The first overseas 1,035 km railway line jointly constructed and operated by China and Laos connects Kunming and Vientiane in Yunnan Province. It also promotes China’s exports to Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore.
