Ashley Wright will be the featured artist at the Redlands Art Association Gallery Sept. 18-Oct. 9, exhibiting paintings.
An open house is scheduled 1-5 p.m. Sept. 18 at the gallery, 215 E. State St., Redlands.
Wright was born and raised in Redlands. She plays the viola and attended the University of Redlands, receiving a bachelor’s degree in music.
She began drawing in childhood and over the years her artistic activities expanded to include orchestra, band, theater, photography and painting. Around the time she picked up painting, she found that she was struggling with her mental health, according to a news release.
Inspirations for her art come from her mental health experiences and her love for nostalgia and sci-fi. She is an advocate for mental health and hopes to bring awareness for complex post-traumatic stress disorder through her paintings, according to the news release.
Her paintings include inspiration from the local mountain ranges and vivid color. For the past three years, she has worked developing her style using heavy gel to create texture and depth.
After developing her style, she expanded into entrepreneurship and created a store with products of her art, such as stickers, journals, pins and prints.
