Greenville, South Carolina (WSPA) – Governor Henry McMaster headed to Upstate on Friday to tour the Kyocera AVX plant and greet members of the Rotary Club in Greenville.

During the tour, Governor McMaster answered several questions about the state’s position on COVID-19, education, and work. When asked if he would do it differently if given a second workaround, he said he would support his decision.

Governor McMaster said he now needs workers in places like South Carolina, especially manufacturing plants.

“The Department of Commerce and the Ministry of Employment and Labor encourage interviews,” said Governor McMaster. “We have eliminated the unemployment of those who refused to work when they were offered a job, or who did not seek a job. Our state is preparing for great growth in the next decade or so. Now it’s time to get back to work. We encourage it and spend these incoming federal funds in a way that supports such great growth. “

He added that there are many routes for training available, such as colleges of technology.

Sarah Hazard, President and Chief Executive Officer of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance, said: “The average South Carolina manufacturing wage is 33% higher than the South Carolina average wage, giving South Carolina a tremendous career opportunity to pursue a manufacturing career.”

Governor McMaster said he had clarified their stance on Covid that many people would not be vaccinated for a variety of reasons in the state. He said it was a decision people had to make for themselves.

“But what I tell people is that South Carolina has a good supply,” said Governor McMaster. “You can get vaccinated almost anywhere. They are available. You don’t have to wait. There is no cost. If you want to get vaccinated, Peggy and I are vaccinated. If you If you want to get vaccinated, now is a good time to do it. “

He also said there are some alternative therapies currently available around the state to help people recover who do not I want to get vaccinated.

When asked if he would do anything different when dealing with the pandemic, he said he thought the state had chartered the right course.

“There was a group of people from all over the state, called Accelerate SC, who were from different disciplines,” said Governor McMaster. “We have educators, lawyers, doctors, businessmen, scholars, law enforcement, and the military, and we have planned a course that does what we need, but not more than we need.”

As a result, South Carolina didn’t have to be closed like other states, he said, and is now in a better position.

“As a result, our business did not go out of business like elsewhere,” said Governor McMaster. “So, looking at the big picture, I think I chartered the right course.”

He added that his administration continues to obtain information, insights and advice from all sources in order to make the right decisions to make South Carolina citizens safe, happy and prosperous.
