German bast fiber to acquire Lumberton Cellulose in North Carolina

Date:

Bust Fiber has signed an agreement to acquire Lumberton Cellulose (LC), a natural fiber processing facility in Lumberton, NC, from Georgia Pacific Cellulose. Tough Textiles is a triple bottomline clean tech textile engineering company that manufactures special natural fibers for applications across the non-woven and textile industries.

The purchase of LC is based on the existing relationship between Bast Fiber and Georgia-Pacific. In February 2020, Bast Fiber granted a globally exclusive license to a series of patents related to the use of bast fibers in various non-woven products and processes of Georgia Pacific consumer products. The LC facility is a highly automated, high quality natural fiber producer for the personal care and hygiene markets. Ideally located to serve North American customers of bast fiber, Bast Fiber grows and invests in its business, establishing LC as a major manufacturing base in the United States, and of hemp and flax in North America. The company plans to open new opportunities and markets for producers, the company said in a press release.

“By acquiring this state-of-the-art natural fiber processing facility and integrating Lumberton’s leading team, Bust Fiber will open its North American manufacturing operations to meet the rapidly growing demand for sustainable natural fibers. It can be established instantly. After the recent acquisition of the German-based fiber processor FVT, it supports the core mission of “grow locally, process locally and sell locally” globally. It is another important step in our long-term strategy to build high-quality manufacturing capacity for our customers. ” Bust Fiber CEO and Chairman Noel Hall Said in a statement.

“The Lumberton Cellulose team is excited about the opportunity to join the BFT team and expand their business. This acquisition builds on increased capacity of bast fibers while continuing to supply current customers, including Georgia Pacific Consumer Products. And it’s perfect for employees and abilities to create new customers. ” Lumberton Plant Manager, Chuck Oxendin Said.

The final purchase will end in the first quarter of Bast FiberTech, provided that the normal termination conditions are met.
