After playing 6 games in 6 weeks, No. 7’Iolani could have faced 77 days before returning to the Division I State Tournament field.

Fortunately for the Raiders, four OIA teams have stepped up to fill the buy-week in the league match against Iolani.

The Raiders passed their first test last week, defeating Kailua after a 29-day vacation and visiting the castle at Eddie Hamadafield on Friday afternoon to win 49-14.

“I am very grateful that they wanted to play,” said Iolani coach Wendell Look. “We tried to play every two weeks, two months apart, so we looked at the schedule and picked a team with a bye-bye to play us.”

Castle’s first-year coach, Junior Pale, took on the challenge and added Iolani to his schedule for six consecutive weeks.

The Knights (1-2, 1-1 OIA DI), who lost 23 points to Moanalua, had the best drive of the game to finish the first quarter.

Iolani led 35-7 when Martinez returned another punt to Castle 10 at 55 yards with 28 seconds remaining.

“It’s good to play in a bigger, physical team, which will make us better,” Look said. “I think we were able to create a turnover and shorten the attack field, which makes it much easier to put points on the board.”

“Iolani has scored at least 28 points in every match of the season.

Bantrina finished 110 rush yards with 16 carries and Homanawa Nui was 8-11 at 93 yards.
