Flight nightmares continue ahead of New Year’s Eve parties – Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas (KTNV) —Michael Hawkins walked Harry Reid International Airport on Tuesday and recorded a flock of tired travelers waiting for a plane that was supposed to arrive in Nashville, Tennessee a few hours ago.

Tuesday’s flight with Spirit was his second attempt to leave Las Vegas after Spirit canceled Sunday’s flight after several delays.

“At least I rebooked my flight to today’s appointment,” Hawkins said. “I shouldn’t even actually talk to you. I should be ready to land in Nashville in the air and in warm weather.”

A few hours later, Spirit also canceled the second flight.

Hawkins said he decided to give up flying on Spirit Airlines and instead spent an additional $ 760 on his return flight via the Southwest after paying from his pocket for an additional stay at the hotel. I did.

“I’m frustrated because I appreciate airlines, and that’s okay at this point,” he said.

Airlines across the country have problems with delays and cancellations during the holiday season, and it is expected that about 300,000 people will visit Las Vegas to celebrate New Year’s Eve, which could increase further in the future.

Robert Bridle, owner of Fanda Travel, said the rapid spread of COVID-19 is stressing and delaying airline crews who are already understaffed.

“In this era, you need to be a little adventurous, and you have to be very patient,” Bridel said.

He said he needed to download the app to all airlines he used to minimize time and cash losses, request another flight from airport staff immediately after cancellation and take out travel insurance. I emphasized the need.

“For all kinds of travel today, it’s a good idea to buy travel protection, travel insurance, whether it’s an airline, a cruise or a tour,” he said.

According to Bridel, many insurance companies are starting to offer special COVID-19 insurance, which allows travelers to pay for the space they stay in if they get sick and need a quarantine site.

KTNV asked Spirit Airlines to explain the cancellation and delay, but did not respond.
