Regarding the harm caused by the intervention, less than 1% of participants reported major hypoglycemic events. One study reported more frequent gastrointestinal adverse effects in people taking metformin and placebo.
Based on these findings, the USPSTF concludes that the current evidence is insufficient to assess the balance between the benefits and harms of type 2 diabetes screening in children and adolescents. There is no evidence of the impact of screening, early detection, and treatment of type 2 diabetes on health outcomes.
Proposed recommendations and evidence reviews are publicly available for public comments. Comments can be submitted from December 14, 2021 to January 18, 2022.
