New York announced three more cases Omicron variant of coronavirus On Saturday, the number of state cases linked to the new variant was eight.
“Omicron variants are here, and as expected, we’re seeing the beginning of community expansion,” said state health commissioner Mary Bassett.
Seven of the cases were found in New York One of the city and Suffolk County.
Omicron’s arrival comes from hospitals burdening the entire state with a surge in coronavirus cases, most of which are due to delta mutants and are also understaffed.
The number of people who test positive for the virus daily across the state has doubled in the last 30 days.
Governor Kathy Hokul has allowed health departments to limit non-essential, non-urgent procedures in hospitals that are likely to be short of beds, and has provided health care workers at facilities to address staffing issues and the proliferation of cases. A national guard has been deployed to rescue.
Fifteen members of the National Guard arrived at the Monroe Community Hospital in Rochester on Saturday, the WROC reported. Deputy Governor Brian Benjamin said on Wednesday that the state had sent 13 state guards to western New York County, and county executive Adam Bello declared a state of emergency.
The Omicron case in New York seems irrelevant so far, Hokuru said. One known case involved a Minnesota man out of 50,000 who attended a three-day anime festival in New York in November.
Authorities require that anyone attending the meeting be tested for Covid-19 and wear a mask in public.
As some health officials suspect, much is unknown about the epidemic, such as whether it is more contagious, whether it can block the vaccine, and whether it is as sick as the original strain.
A woman who recently traveled from South Africa became the first confirmed case in both New Jersey and Georgia after seeking treatment for moderate symptoms in an emergency room.
A fully vaccinated Georgia resident was in his home state for two days, from his arrival in South Africa to his trip to New Jersey.
The first three cases of the Omicron variant in Maryland were found in the Baltimore region, including two people from the same household, officials said. One is a vaccinated person who recently traveled to South Africa. The third case of a vaccinated person who has not recently traveled is irrelevant.
A man in his thirties from Philadelphia was the first case in Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Department of Health did not immediately reveal whether the man was vaccinated with Covid-19 or was on a trip.
The first presumed case in Missouri involves someone who recently traveled within the United States, according to state officials who did not provide additional details about the residents of St. Louis. The City Health Department said it was waiting for confirmation from the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Case numbers in California, Nebraska, and Colorado increased on Friday. Five incidents in Northern California were related to a wedding in Wisconsin last month, officials said. According to the Alameda County Health Department, an individual has recently returned from a trip abroad.
Authorities have identified six new cases of subspecies in southeastern Nebraska. State health officials said the state’s first incident was likely due to one of six people who recently traveled to Nigeria and returned on November 23.
Officials said Colorado detected a second case of the Omicron variant one day later.
“We know that variants of Omicron will emerge, and we expect to see more cases, but let’s be clear, we’re not vulnerable,” Hokuru said. “We have tools to help prevent the spread of this deadly virus. Get vaccines, get boosters, and wear masks.”
