A truck driver belonging to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation first tried to collect cash before he realized that his attempt was in vain.

The footage shows the invoices scattered all over the road, with other drivers running around, picking up the invoices and showing off their loot.

The California Highway Patrol says couples, men and women were arrested after receiving some of the money on Interstate 5.

A woman with a video said:

“San Diego has been closed. Literally closed.”

Another witness, Travis Fisher, told Fox 5 how he first believed there was an accident when traffic stopped.

He explained: “There were a lot of cars in front of me, everything stopped and it stopped completely.

“I see all these things floating and realize that it’s money.

“It was pretty crazy. There was a sea of invoices everywhere.”

He believes there were thousands of dollars on the road.

By 10 am, CHP police officers arrived at the scene and began moving drivers off the freeway.

They were seen bundling the bill in a plastic bag.

It’s unclear how the truck door opened and how much it cost.

Police officers are now demanding that anyone who receives money from the road must return it immediately.

CHP Sergeant Martin said: “If you find money on the freeway, it’s not your money.”

“It belongs to the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) and this armored truck and bank. Must be returned.”
