DEA sponsors 21st annual drug take back event – Florence, South Carolina

Florence, South Carolina (WBTW) — The prescription takeaway event is Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 10 am to 2 pm. Potentially dangerous, expired, unused, unwanted prescription drugs.

Captain Mike Brant of the Florence Police Department states that between 2018 and 2020, the drug department brought out nearly 16,000 prescription drugs from the streets. This event emphasizes a safer way to destroy pills, rather than giving them out or throwing them in the bathroom.

Peedy people can bring your pills to West Florence High School, 221 Beltline Drive, and First Baptist Church, 300S Arby St. Florence South Carolina for disposal.

Sean Cooper, a resident agent in Florence for DEA, says he has destroyed 7,000 tonnes of pills since the event began.

“Drug overdose has increased by 30%. That’s 250 lives every day. Imagine an airline with 250 passengers every day falling out of the sky. That’s a big deal.” Cooper said. “This is an American problem. We are all suffering from this problem. This is a fad that is killing a lot of people and we want to do something about it,” Cooper said. I continued.
