Charlotte, NC (WSPA) – 5th Georgia held a total of 180 yards in 3rd Clemson when the Bulldog beat the Tigers 10-3 in the opening round at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday.
The game was scoreless until the second quarter of play, but Georgia got on board when Christopher Smith intercepted DJ Uiagalelei and returned 74 yards for a touchdown. The Bulldog took a 7-0 lead in the half, demonstrating that Clemson was shut out to North Carolina State University for the first time since 2010. The Bulldog defense suffocated all night, scoring seven sack in the win.
Both teams managed one field goal in the second half as Georgia won 10-3.
Wiagareley finished 19-37, 178 yards, with no touchdown and a single passcut. The Tigers rushed to the contest in just two yards.
However, Clemson’s defense was difficult for the bulldog all night long. Byron Specter recorded his first career interception, and the Tigers’ defense kept Georgia down to a total of 256 yards and did not allow an aggressive score.
Clemson will return to action at home in South Carolina on September 11.
