The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s independent Vaccine Commission will meet on Friday to consider whether to approve Modana and Pfizer booster shots for all adults in the United States.
The Immunization Implementation Advisory Board meeting will take place hours after the Food and Drug Administration approves the booster in an emergency at the beginning of Friday.
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky has the final say on whether shots need to be managed. Wallensky said on Wednesday that the agency would act as quickly as possible.
“As soon as the FDA reviews and approves these data, the CDC will act swiftly,” Walensky told reporters during the White House Covid update. “We will review epidemiological, validity, and safety data. We will provide recommendations as soon as possible.”
In October, the CDC cleared the booster immunization of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for all adults who received a single dose.
CDC approval will open the door for tens of millions of Americans to receive a third shot, as more data show that the effectiveness of vaccines against infections declines over time. .. Public health experts are concerned that the United States may face another wave of infection as Americans gather indoors for vacations and escape the cold of winter.
Booster doses may help reduce already high infections by helping prevent breakthrough Covid infections among those already vaccinated.
