California wildfires burn into groves of giant sequoia trees

Three Rivers, California (AP) — A wildfire in California burned at least four orchards in a huge ancient sequoia in national parks and forests. However, the cool weather on Friday helped the crew try to keep the flames away from the famous clusters, including the world’s largest trees.

In Sequoia National Park and Sequoia National Forest, trees 200 feet high and potentially 2,000 years old set fire to the grove.

Fire authorities have not yet identified how much damage was done to the orchard.

The flame is still about 1.6 km (1 mile) from the famous Giant Forest, which has a special aluminum wrapping aimed at protecting the roots of the world’s largest General Sherman tree.
