California treasurer often shared hotel rooms with employees

Sacramento, California (AP) — Fiona Ma, Treasury Secretary of California, repeatedly shared hotel rooms with employees, a convention that business professionals say is problematic.

The sharing of hotel rooms was revealed in an expense report obtained by The Sacramento Bee and reported on Tuesday.

The news follows a lawsuit by a former employee who shared a hotel room with a horse and claimed sexual harassment and illegal retirement. Ma denied the proceedings and says he shared accommodation to save money. Ma is a Democrat and was elected Secretary of the State Treasury in 2018.

Bee reports that Ma shared a hotel room with her Chief of Staff more than a dozen times and shared accommodation with other employees.
