Brunswick clings to faith awaiting the outcome in Arbery case – Riverside, California

    Riverside, California 2021-11-21 16:05:10 –

The Brunswick Community “trusts God” while waiting for the outcome of the trial.

Brunswick, Georgia — A proceeding against three men accused of murdering Amado Arbury, with closing arguments set to begin on Monday. The jury will then receive instructions within a few days.

Last week, Travis McMichael testified in his own defense and shocked some with his testimony about the last moments of Arbury’s life. The town of Brunswick is the center of Georgia and many other countries.

Brunswick on Sunday was as quiet as many other southern towns on Sunday. People went to churches and grocery stores. Megan Rivers of WUSA9 talked to a neighbor who lives in the town. When the new week began and closing arguments were held, they said they not only helped them, but also relied on faith for what they called their hometown.

In the center of town, Hungry Hannah’s, where people once ate a lot of food, is closed. Few people were waiting for closing arguments in the case on the streets of downtown Brunswick.

“I’m nervous and I’m getting nervous. You can feel it with your colleagues and what you have. It’s this polarization, whether it’s society, work, or wherever you go. It’s a little tense and polarized, “says Michael Carroll.

Carol spent all his years living in this town. The church is one of the few places he said he did not bear the weight of the division of his community.

“People of faith, and I mean people of faith, not just blacks. Whenever everything else fails, we can kneel and pray for stronger power. Everyone has learned. You when you need it, “he said.

Carroll said he was nervous about the outcome of the case after being acquitted in the Kyle Rittenhouse case.

“Unbelief. It’s unbelievable that you can walk down the street with an automatic or semi-automatic pistol, kill the other two, injure a third and acquittal. Things have progressed a bit in the north. I think you do, but that’s not the case because we can see it, “Carroll added.

After Arbury’s death, peaceful protests took place with Brunswick and across the country. Jean and Fran Christianson want no violence, no matter what the outcome.

“We hope it will be a fair and peaceful solution,” they said.

A few blocks from Glynn County Hall, a song of faith echoed from the choir stand of the First Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. John E. Fields.

“We trust in God,” said the minister.

As in many cases of life, he said we can’t predict what will happen, but that the Brunswick community can stick to when the judiciary carries out its course. It’s a belief.

“We do not allow juries to look at the case and bring their prejudices into the case, but objectively, objectively weigh the evidence, and compare the evidence to what the law says. And I hope that justice will win, “said Rev. Fields.

On Sunday, I also spoke with Lee Merritt, a lawyer representing the Arbury family. He said the case was clearly very burdensome to them, more than any family he saw in such a famous case. He believes they have been targeted by the defense, adding that although their level of anxiety is high throughout the trial, they have received a lot of support from religious leaders and the community.

Both malicious and felony murder charges have been sentenced to life imprisonment, and if convicted, a judge will determine the eligibility for parole.
