City Utilities takes samples to ensure the safety and quality of water. Notifications regarding boiling water may be valid until Monday.
Corpus Christi, Texas — update:
City Utilities crew repaired a 24-inch waterline on North Padre Island and restored water services to residents. Water samples have been collected from four locations under test.
There is an incubation period of 18 hours before the test results are completed. Notifications regarding boiling water may be valid until Monday.
It is important for residents of North Padre to keep boiling water until the boiling water notification is lifted. Only the inhabitants of Corpus Christi on North Padre Island need to boil the water. All other Corpus Christi water customers are unaffected by boiling water notifications.
The City of Corpus Christi has issued a boiling water notice to North Padre Island due to the low pressure caused by the damage to a major water main at Packery Channel Park Road by the Texas Sea Life Center.
In the release, the city notified customers on North Padre Island to boil water before consuming it (for example, washing hands / face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc.). Children, the elderly, and people with weakened immunity are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers must follow these instructions, the release said.
To ensure the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microorganisms, drinking, cooking and ice-making water must be boiled and cooled before being used for drinking water or human consumption. Bring the water to a boil, then boil for 2 minutes.
Instead of boiling, residents can buy bottled water or obtain water from drinking water or other suitable water sources for human consumption purposes.
When the water no longer needs to be boiled, the release will notify the public water authorities that the water is safe for drinking water or other related purposes.
When the boiling water notification is disabled, the public water system issues a notice to the customer to cancel the boiling water notification.
Only the inhabitants of Corpus Christi on North Padre Island need to boil the water. All other Corpus Christi residents are not affected by the boiling water notice.
An emergency repair crew is currently on site to work until the required repairs are complete.
“The city of Corpus Christi is working on repairing the water mains on North Padre Island, so we are issuing this boiling water notice as a precautionary measure,” the release said.
