Blizzard warning issued in Hawaii – Honolulu, Hawaii

    Honolulu, Hawaii 2021-12-05 00:18:01 –

Los Angeles, December 4th (Xinhua)-If the height of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, Hawaii’s Big Island summit, exceeds 13,000 feet (3,962.4 meters), a snowstorm warning will be issued on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), at least 12 inches (30.48 cm) of snow is expected to fall in the area this weekend and Monday in a gust of 100 mph (160.9 km / h).

The NWS warns people not to travel to mountainous areas, saying that “snow blows can significantly reduce visibility and can result in zero visibility.”

According to the National Meteorological Service’s Forecasting Center, Hawaii has more than 11,000 feet (3,352.8 meters) of snow. Haleakala, the state’s third-highest mountain, is just over 10,000 feet high and only records snow every two to three years.

NPR reported that the weather this weekend was simply strange across the United States. As of Saturday, the only other places so far this year that have seen snowstorm warnings are Alaska and Wyoming, Nebraska, the South Dakota Plateau, and a small sliver in western Minnesota.

“Hawaii’s highest peaks spent the weekend under the warning of a snowstorm, but record rainfall fell on the Pacific Northwest, unseasonably warm temperatures spread to the Midwest and South, and heavy snow droughts in the Rocky Mountains. Means that Denver hadn’t seen the first snowfall yet “season.”

Last week, Denver broke the latest first measurable snow record for this winter season. The previous record was set on November 21, 1934.
