Currently, there are no universities in Nunavut. However, the province boasts of only one college which is the only postsecondary institution in the province which is Nunavut Article College. 

As a matter of fact, the college offers a small number of degrees in conjunction with Dalhousie University for Nunavut Nursing Program. It also partners with University of Regina for Nunavut Teacher Education.

Recently, it also entered into partnership with  University of Prince Edward Island for Master of Education in Leadership and Learning program as well as the Akitsiraq Law Program.

In addition, residents of the Northern part of Canada have access to receive training in both very basic academic and vocational studies.

However, due to the distance and the nature of roads between communities, the college tries to bring their programs to various communities.

Even though, there are currently no universities in Nunavut, the province is making plans to build some universities in the province.

And whatever curriculum they set will be used whenever the first university of Nunavut is establish.

As mentioned above, it is the duty of Curriculum Development division to set the curriculum of studies for Universities in Nunavut once they are established.

Therefore, the Curriculum Development division has the following responsibilities:  development, adoption/adaptation and implementation of all curriculum, Foundation documents, teaching resources, as well as  student learning materials.

In other words, it deals with everything associated with programs of study for all grades in Nunavut. That means from Kindergarten to grade12.

The unit ensures that all materials used in Nunavut schools reflect education best practices, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and the philosophical approaches of the Department of Education.

The aim is to develop and cultivate the unique talents, interest, needs and abilities of students. Apart from that, it also helps to bring about educational improvement and excellence.

How To Apply To Canadian Universities As an International Student

International students who want to study in Canada must follow the steps below to apply:

Choose a Program: The first step to take if you you want to study in Canada is to choose a program. This is because your choice of program determines the other processes. In addition, it also determines the documents you need. 

Apply to the School: Secondly, after deciding the program of your choice. Then, you will apply to your preferred school. However, you must check to know of your preferred institution is a designated learning institute in Canada. Also, you must check to know if they offer the program.  

Apply for a Study Permit: Thirdly, apply for a Canada study permit. If your admission has been granted, you can take it to the immigration office in your country. This will make the whole process easier.

  • other supporting documents 

Prepare your application: If after everything, you meet the requirements, then, it is time to prepare your application for a study permit. 

Submit your study permit application: there are two ways to submit your application. 

Firstly, you can submit online by creating an account with IRCC.

Secondly, you can send your documents in hard copies via mail. 

Once your permit has been approved, you can begin your preparation to come into Canada. Do not expect to get your study permit before you arrive in Canada.

You will only get it once you arrive Canada. Hence, you get your study permit at a point of entry. In order to show that your permit has been approved, you will get a port of entry introduction letter. This is the letter that you must show to the immigration officer when you arrive in Canada.

However, once you arrive in Canada, the officer at the point of entry will collect the letter and replace it with your study permit. In case, your permit is not yet ready, they will give you an appointment to their office.
