Authorities confirmed that eight people, including 14 and 16 years old, had died and 25 were admitted to the Astroworld Music Festival in Houston on Friday.

Mayor Sylvester Turner said at a press conference Saturday afternoon that seven of the victims ranged between 14 and 27 years old. The age of one victim could not be determined.

Of the 25 people taken to the hospital, 5 were under the age of 18. Thirteen are still hospitalized, the mayor added. No one has been reported missing.

A crowd began to gather around 9 pm local time for a performance by rapper and festival founder Travis Scott. Before the concert started, concert attendees were pushed out in front of the stage, causing panic and injury. Houston Fire Chief Samuel Penha said earlier Saturday that the turmoil had escalated until 9:38 pm when a “massive casualty” was triggered. The cause of death of the eight victims was still unknown.

Scott, who launched the festival in his hometown in 2018, said it was “absolutely devastated.”

“Houston PD has my full support as it continues to investigate tragic loss of life,” he said in a tweet. “I promise to work with the Houston community to heal and support families in need.”

About 50,000 people were supposed to participate in the festival, NBC News reported.. The event was supposed to continue until Saturday, but authorities canceled the second day after Stampede.

According to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, rumors have swirled on social media that unknown people are injecting drugs into other patrons.

He added that there were reports of authorities reaching out to grab a citizen and fainting after feeling a puncture wound in his neck. According to Finner, police officers have been resurrected with Narkan, a common drug used to treat drug overdose in emergencies, and later have consistent puncture wounds “if someone tries to inject.” There was found.

Investigation into what happened at the event and caused casualties is still underway.

“This case has been thoroughly investigated and reviewed,” said Mayor Turner. “It’s important to see what happened, what happened, and where the failure happened since last night.” Told.
