    Colorado Springs, Colorado 2021-11-25 19:36:30 –

Aurora, Colorado-After a Wednesday night discussion, a 17-year-old boy died after a gun battle exchange with a former Greenwood Village police officer, an Aurora police spokesman said Thursday.

Police said the shooting was reported Wednesday at around 10:30 pm at 900 blocks on S. Addison Way near the intersection of South Gun Club Road and E. Bellview Avenue.

The caller who reported the shooting said the two had shot each other at the dispatch. Upon arriving at the scene, Aurora police found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, both taken to a hospital, where the teen was sentenced to death.

Another suspect identified by Aurora Police as a former officer at the Greenwood Village Police Station is expected to survive.

The home surveillance video acquired by Denver7 shows the moment leading up to the shootout exchange.

The ring doorbell video shows two cars parked on the South Addison Way just before 10:30 pm. A group of teens can be seen entering and exiting one of the parked cars during a verbal confrontation with an SUV driver.

After a while, a shootout exchange occurs between one of the teens and the SUV driver. Multiple rounds are discharged and can be heard and watched on surveillance video.

When the firing stops, the SUV driver appears to return into the car, climb further up the road, and then return to the scene after a while. Second, the video appears to show that the two are helping teenage victims.

An edited version of the video can be viewed on the player below. The video will pause before someone hits it, but some audio will continue to play. Edited to maintain teen identity and avoid overly graphic images. The video can get in the way of the viewer.

After talking to witnesses, investigators believe the shooting was the result of a debate between a 36-year-old man and a group of teenagers who might have been inadvertently driving the neighborhood at the time.

“At some point in the debate, both adults and teens made firearms, and both fired at each other,” said a news release from APD.

Detectives from the Department’s Serious Crimes Department are working to determine the situation leading up to the exchange of shootings with the person responsible for inciting the shootings.

    No arrests have been made.

A former officer is currently not working for other law enforcement agencies and will be identified as a teenager upon notification to his family, according to a spokesperson for the Aurora Police Department.
