Greenville County, South Carolina (WSPA) – According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, four people were arrested in connection with a series of catalytic converter thefts in Upstate.
The suspect is believed to be responsible for 19 cases since January. The suspect was arrested from corporate camera video evidence and in collaboration with Greenville police.
They were detained in Greenwood, Wearshoals, and Greenville County.
29-year-old Thomas Kentell Thomas, 26-year-old Anterriyo Deondre Cade, 25-year-old Darius Akeem McClendon, and 26-year-old Vance Lakeith Elmore remain in the Greenville County Detention Center.
Together, they were charged with 72 automatic destructions, 71 thefts, 11 robbery tools, and 11 criminal plots, according to the sheriff’s office.
Greenville County Sheriff Hobert Lewis says he has investigated more than 100 cases related to the theft of catalytic converters since January 1. He said the suspect was primarily targeting businesses at night, spending about a couple of minutes on each vehicle cutting and removing parts.
According to the sheriff’s office, they take them to scrap yards and refineries, where they sell for between $ 200 and $ 4,000. Nine people were also arrested in connection with illegal transactions.
