Potential security concerns prompted an emergency landing at LaGuardia Airport, leading to the arrest of one of the plane’s passengers confirmed on Saturday.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that Republic Airlines flight 4817 landed safely at Queenstown around 3 pm after the “security incident.” Eighty passengers and all crew members safely unloaded the aircraft on the taxiway.
According to a Port Authority spokesperson, the plane made an emergency landing after a passenger reported suspicious activity from someone on board. A senior law enforcement officer briefed on the case said the passengers were out of control and suggested that he had equipment on the plane when faced by the flight crew.
The plane pilot sent a radio forward in case of an emergency and was ready to respond when the plane landed. According to FAA, Flight 4817 departed Indianapolis at around 1 pm for LaGuardia.
Several videos posted on social media around the time the plane landed showed a serious emergency response from local fire and police stations.
There were no signs of substantial threat to the passengers and crew on the plane or in flight, officials said. Since then, authorities have wiped out planes and the scene of potential threats.
Passengers were detained for cross-examination.
